Ulf, are you still around?
I would be interested in an update on this project.. are you listening to this setup a year later?
I have a pair of these same drivers (TAD tm-1201) sitting new in boxes and trying to determine what horn profile, tractr...

[quote user="cv"]AlloI had a theory that the bug screen was helping to damp horn modes/refelctions caused by a mismatch between the S2 internal flare and the horn flare rate. I have 340Hz flare JMLC horns, which may be expected to give less of a mism...

Paul,
Thanks for the comments.
I may have come up with a way of making the BIG horns fairly painlessly.
I found a place that sells large sheets of urethane foam in several thicknesses and several densities. And, Its no big deal to find a place that...

I’ve been harassing my horn-maker for quite a while with an idea to go for straight, no-cheating 45-50Hx horn. We discussed it countless times and sometime probably we would go for this, and particularly if I figure out how to resolve the delays prob...

Well, when we are talking about Cogent we need clearly differentiate two things: the Cogent’s drivers and the Cogent’s installation. The problem is that since Cogent’s drivers are something so called “compression drivers” then their performance might...

[quote

right from the entrance of phase plugs. In this sense, not even Bruce and Sam
did it right, I’m afraid to say. In many cases the driver and the horn are

Romy, thank you for your thoughts. First off, my further thought on the system and specifically the implementation of the high freq section: Yes, the time alignment would be a challenge but possible. This is the main compromise, in my view but the le...

Completely understandable. That's why it's fun! It's enjoyable to make something, study the results, make changes, and start over! That seems to definitely be the theme with horns from what you guys are telling me.So it sounds like I shouldn't expe...

Hi thereFor some time its bugging me that compression drivers got a very heavy but odd load of air coupling on the membrane. I saw a scatch here to put ideally 2 Horns on each side of the driveway to balance it. That's obviously not so economically :...

So, with this horn I got the sound I was dreaming for!Currently system consists of 4 channels:1. RAAL Lazy Ribbon (14k+)2. JBL 2453 in 550Hz LeCleach (1200 - 14k)3. JBL 2490 in first part of own JBL horn (300-1200)4. 12" Supravox in 42Hz 2m long horn...

Do you even need a horn to run it at 5kHz? The acoustic transformation's probably done by the time the wave reaches the throat. Or is this more just to shape the rolloff below 5kHz? I once tried a hornless S2 as a tweeter; it was quite lovely but did...

Dear Romy Chapter 1 in the audio cyclopedia, you should read it because you are the won who lacks experiance when it come to building a sound system. #1 from were you listen to system from you should be able to look down the thr...

It is depends what kind horn it is. For LF horn the resonance should not be “an octave lower then lowest frequency you can realistically get from the horn”. In fact the common way is to much the assembly resonance to the horn cut off by squashi...

As I reported at GSC, my CD transport started acting up (skipping) quite a while ago, at a time when I was unable to deal with it. I thought at first I had ruined several CDs by playing them in my car, but that turned out to be a coincidence. When I ...

A visitor of my site, a guy who never ask stupid question about audio, asked me a question how to find a correct size of the back chamber of a straight upper bass horn that he juts built. I wrote a reply but then realized that it would be worth to up...

Last time we wrote you thought I should focus less on tweeters and more on midbass.I am not done yet, but I have found a very nice midbass solution. Somewhat unorthodox, maybe.I have come to love police sirens! Without having A/B compared it to a pai...

Allo fellas,
Regarding pricing, best if you check with Martin; I know what I'm paying but I had to commission them specially - I know a hell of a lot of work went into making the mould, jigs to support the mould, etc etc. Actually the 340s were my c...

Hi there
I can see Romy's face when he's trying to figure out Martin's time alignment strategy;0) I have Martin's 204 Hz horn with Fostex 208 E Sig. These horns are to be big to properly integrate with anything. They are OK with Fostex Lowther drive...

KlausMartin (Azura horn ) is making for me extension to 2.75" (BC 8p21)and 1.4" for 204 Hz (altec 288c) .He also developed 550 hz horn for S2 . He understands importance of smooth driver -throat transition . It would be ready to go solution for...

Yes, too low efficiency, even worse than Altec 515, (when loaded with small throat, in proper FLH, NOT A7 type "horn" which disqualified it also for my usage... I don't know how "colored" Tannoy would sound with properly designed...

Hi Romy, I ended up using a TAD 1101h 11 inch driver, 97db, 38fs, and is what I believe a stronger cone than the Goto 8 inch. The DIY mid bass horn is a 1/2 space 53hz hyperbolic horn with 5in x 5in square throat. Length is about 8'6", height of mout...

The horns are still plugged but I desired to test if the vibration from the midbass hors will be detectable on the listing room floor. The mouth of the horns does vibrate. Well, it is not a vibration but rather some shaking – pit in this way – if I h...

Brass instruments function much differently than audio horns. First of all they are built extremely resonant by mismatching length and horn taper. The taper of the bell is there not for horn type efficiency, rather to change the acoustical length of ...
